More than 30 years later, this season another route was drawn on the slopes. The summit was reached on 11th July, by Austrians Gerfried Göschl, Sepp Bachmair, Hans Goger, and Canadian Louis Rousseau. Le 2 septembre 2009 Je suis de retour depuis 14 août. Nous avons eu beaucoup de visibilité au niveau international en ouvrant une nouvelle voie sur le Nanga Parbat et les deux tentatives au K2. Je suis très content. Depuis mon retour, je m’affaire à la rédaction d’articles pour différents magazines et sites Internet. Je dois planifier également mes conférences que je devrai donner cette année pour faire connaître l’expédition et aussi pour remplir mes engagements auprès de mes commanditaires. Je vais régulièrement mettre à jour mon site Internet avec des nouveaux articles, photos et dates des conférences. I have been back from Pakistan since August 14th, and I have spent my time resting and getting back on my feet. I am hoping that you’ve been following the expedition this summer; we’ve had great exposure with our new route on Nanga Parbat and our two tries on K2. I am very happy with the expedition. Since I’ve been back, I have been writing a few articles for climbing, mountaineering and outdoors magazines and websites. I have also been planning the conferences that I will be giving this year to talk about our expedition and to respect my engagement to my sponsors. I will update my own website with new articles, photos and conference dates.

Le jeudi 30 juillet 2009 Bonjour à tous! La troisième tentative commencera ce dimanche, 2 août. Les prévisions météo sont excellentes et une quinzaine de personnes des équipes suivantes feront l'ascension : l'équipe des États-unis, du Japon, de la Corée, de la Russie, du Kazakhstan, ainsi que Gerlinde qui n'appartient à aucune équipe. Le 27 juillet 2009 Bonjour! Jamais 2 sans 3... Louis restera une dernière semaine au camp de bas du K2 pout tenter une dernière fois le sommet. Il se reposera pendant 2 ou 3 jours et tentera à nouveau sa chance avec toute l'équipe. Tout le monde va bien et le moral est bon. Ils se refont des forces en attendant un nouveau bulletin météo qui les aidera à déterminer la date du prochain assaut. à bientôt, Candice July 27, 2009 Hello everyone! 26 juillet 2009 Bonjour à tous! Louis s'est rendu jusqu'à 7800m sur le K2 et a dû redescendre, à cause du vent et du brouillard. Ils avaient de la neige jusqu'aux hanches! Le 24 juillet 2009 Chers amis, Malheureusement la fenêtre de beau temps n'a pas duré. Louis, Sepp et Gerfried, en compagnie de Christian Stangl, sont au camp 2. Il vente très fort et il y a beaucoup de brouillard. Ils attendent que la température s'améliore en s'hydratant et prenant des forces,avant d'aller au camp 3. Nous aurons d'autres nouvelles demain! 22 juillet 2009 Bonjour chers amis, Louis, Gerfried et Sepp sont maintenant au camp de base du K2. Ils vont bien. Les dieux sont avec eux: une fenêtre de beau temps inespérée s'ouvre en ce moment sur le K2. Ils partiront donc vendredi pour le camp 2, y dormiront, et seront au camp 3 samedi. Ayant complété leur acclimatation depuis longtemps, ils n'arrêteront donc pas au camp 4 et tenteront le sommet dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche. Une bonne cargaison d'ondes positives sera donc très appréciée jusqu'à la fin de la semaine! À bientôt! Candice July 22nd 2009 Hi all! Louis, Sepp and Gerfried have now joined 11 of their teammates at the K2 bascamp. All are well. The mountain gods are with them: an unexpected window of good weather has just opened up on K2! Since everybody is acclimatized, they will skip camp 1 and 4 and leave for camp 2 on Friday. They will reach camp 3 on Saturday and try the summit between Saturday and Sunday. 15 juillet 2009 Bonjour à tous,Vous pouvez lire la suite de la triste histoire de Wolfgang et de Mlle Go sur les Everest News et K2climb. Nous offrons nos sincères sympathies aux familles et aux amis des disparus. Ces décès ont intensément bouleversé les équipes qui grimpaient au Nanga Parbat. Nous souhaitons à ceux qui ont quitté une bonne route vers les leurs. Louis va bien. Il est allé se reposer avec l'équipe dans un petit village près du Nanga Parbat. Ils ont bien mangé, bien dormi et bien parlé. Tous sont rentrés chez eux, sauf Louis, Gerfried et Sepp. Ils partiront demain matin pour le camp de base du K2. Étant donné les mauvaises conditions météo (le K2 est enneigé), ils ne tenteront pas d'ouvrir une nouvelle voie, mais tenteront plutôt la voie normale. Cependant, si la voie n'est pas équipée, si la température est mauvaise et/ou si l'atmosphère est désagréable, ce sera un retour à la maison pour tous. Ils vont donc simplement au camp de base du K2 pour constater si la situation est propice à une tentative vers le sommet. Le moral est correct. Louis et Gerfried doivent encore gérer certains commentaires publiés sur les sites ci-haut mentionnés, de grimpeurs qui semblent ressentir beaucoup de colère face aux récents événements. Ils répondront via les mêmes sites sous peu. Sur ce, chers amis, portez-vous bien et je remercie infiniment les parents et amis qui nous soutiennent, Louis et moi, à travers cette aventure. This has strongly affected all teams that were climbing on Nanga Parbat. We wish a safe journey to all that left to go home. Louis is in a little village nearby, where he slept, ate, healed and talked for 2 days. Along with Gerfried and Sepp, they will leave for the K2 basecamp early tomorrow morning. 5 members of the team, that were planning on trying K2 only, are already there, awaiting their arrival. They have decided to go see what the conditions are like. If its too snowed in, like other cilmbers have mentionned on their blogs and communications, they will abort the climb. They are not attempting a new route anymore. If they go up, it will be by the normal route. If the route is not properly equipped, they will also turn back and go home. Louis and Gerfrief have yet to respond to some comments published on the above mentionned websites. They will answer directly on those websites during the next few days. Le samedi 10 juillet 2009 Bonjour à tous! Les nouvelles sont brèves mais elles seront nombreuses aujourd'hui. Louis et son équipe ont rejoint le reste de leur co-équipiers sur le camp 4 de la voie normale. Ils ne pouvaient installer un nouveau camp 4 puisque la nouvelle route était trop exposée au vent. Tout le monde va bien. Ils sont très fiers et très contents car ils ont officiellement ouvert une nouvelle voie! Reste à savoir si ce premier exploit sera doublé d'un sommet! Le jeudi 9 juillet 2009 Bonjour! Ce matin, Louis a dit que sa petite équipe est maintenant à 6900m, en train d'installer le camp 3. Ils sont au-dessus des nuages et attendent qu'il vente un peu moins fort pour poursuivre leur ascension. Ils ont également décidé d'installer un quatrième camp sur le Nanga Parbat, avant de tenter le sommet. Leur tentative vers la cîme se fera donc samedi. Tout le monde est en pleine forme et travaille fort pour installer les camps et faire la trace. Louis est spécialement fier du travail accompli lors de l'installation du nouveau camp 2:il y avait quelques dizaines de mètre d'escalade de glace et il s'est chargé d'installer cette partie plus technique de la nouvelle route. Peut-être l'appellerons-nous «the Rousseau pass»... ;P Ils prévoient redescendre par la voir normale, qui est toute installée par le reste de l'équipe. À très bientôt! Candice Thursday, July 9th 2009 Hi everyone! The little team is now way over the clouds. They have just finished installing camp 3 at an altitude of 6900m. Strong winds have forced them to take a little break before installing a camp 4 and going for their first summit push. All are doing good and Louis is particurlarly proud of the work he did on the way to the second camp, as there was a chimney to ice-climb. Of course, he pulled it off... perhaps a «Rousseau pass» was just born... ;P Their summit push will take place this coming Saturday, and they will come down via the normal route. Stay tuned! Candice

Hi everyone! So our 5 climbing heroes are now opening a new route on the Nanga Parbat as we speak! I got a call this morning from a new second camp, at 6300meters. This new route entails reinstalling camp 2 and 3, and a first-ever summit push on that brand new route! Can anyone think of a name for it? Everybody is well health and energy wise. Gunther, Louis et Gerfried Hans et Sepp feront équipe pour aller au camp 3 mercredi, installer le camp 4 jeudi et tenter le somme vendredi. Monday, July 6 2009 Dear friends, And now the time has finally come: they will try their first summit assault this week! After a little less than a month for acclimatization, everybody seems to be ready to give camp 3 and 4 a try. After exceptionally good news from the weather experts , the team will ascend to camp 3 on Wednesday, install camp 4 on Thursday, and try the summit on Friday. Louis will be climbing with Gerfried, Gunther, Hans and Sepp, to open a brand new route on Nanga Parbat. Send positive thoughts and keep your fingers crossed! Louis is very excited and happy. Jeudi le 2 juillet 2009 Bonjour à tous et toutes, Tout se passe encore très bien. L'équipe s'acclimate bien et rapidement. Le camp 2 est définitivement installé et tout le monde y a dormi au moins une fois. Le camp trois sera certainement installé dans les prochains jours. Louis va très bien. Le moral est toujours bon, mais il pense beaucoup à sa famille et à ses amis. Le week-end dernier, l'équipe s'est reposée car l'installation des 2 premiers camps a demandé beaucoup de travail. Voilà pour l'instant, je sais que c'est court mais la vie à la montagne est beaucoup plus lente. À la semaine prochaine, Candice
Thursday, July 2nd 2009 Dear friends, As of now, everybody has reached and slept at least one nigh on BC 2. All is well and the clombers are in good spirits. This past week-end, the team took it slow. The weather was bad, so they stayed at basecamp and rested. They will probably set up BC 3 in a few days and their acclimatization will soon be done. They hope to try the summit whithin the next 3 weeks. Louis was happy to have this 2-day break, since installing BC 2 proved to be a tedious task. He misses his family and friends. I apologize for the late
news, the team has been having trouble with their computer and sat phone. Louis
safely got to base camp this past weekend. He is doing very well. For those
that worry about the political situation in
As of Sunday, everybody in
the team has reached basecamp. Sadly 3 members of the team fell ill, from
altitude sickness, so they had to come down for a day or two. Base camp is
covered in snow right now, which is unusual for this time of year, since it’s
actually supposed to be green and covered with flowers. Fortunately, the
weather will improve greatly in the next few days, which will enable the team to attempt their first summit
in about 10 days.
In fact, last Sunday, Louis, Gunther Unterberger and Gerfried Göschl slept at camp 1 for the first
time. It’s the beginning of their acclimatization and camp preparations.
